Smart Meter Rollout

smart_energy_gb_logoWe are pleased to announce that we have partnered with Smart Energy GB to help deliver the smart meter rollout.

Working alongside Smart Energy GB, we will help to spread the word about smart meters and their benefits, and ensure that people are aware of how they can have them installed.

What are smart meters?

Smart meters are the new generation of gas and electricity meters which will replace the traditional meters in our homes. Every home in England, Scotland and Wales will be offered a smart meter by their energy supplier, at no extra cost.

Smart meters will enable you to see exactly how much energy you’re using, as you use it, and what it is costing in pounds and pence. This will help you to stay more in control of your energy use.

Smart meters take regular readings and share these wirelessly, through a secure network, with your energy supplier. You can choose to send this information daily, weekly or even half hourly.

This means your bills will be accurate, not estimated, and you will no longer need to have manual meter readings.

Along with your smart meter, you will receive an in-home display, a handheld digital device that shows exactly how much energy you’re using and what it is costing in near real time.

In the future, smart meters will make it easier to switch between suppliers, or between credit and prepay. If you are a prepay customer, you will also be able to top up online or via mobile phone.

How can I get a smart meter?

Energy suppliers are installing smart meters for their customers at different times. When you are eligible to get a smart meter can depend on many different factors, such as the age of your existing meter and the type of housing you live in.

When they are ready to install smart meters in your area, your supplier will contact you.

How can we help?

We are able to provide information and advice on what smart meters are, why the smart meter rollout is happening, and how you can have a smart meter installed, as well as how you can maximise the benefits that they can offer to you.

We are also able, with your permission, to contact energy suppliers on your behalf to request a smart meter installation.

We will be hosting and attending many events in the local area, and also have an active social media presence and Freephone advice line, so get in touch with us to see how we can help you get a smart meter installed free of charge in the near future!

You can also find out more information by visiting Smart Energy GB’s website and YouTube channel, where they have a range of informative and entertaining videos.
